When you dream about your proposal as a girl, it’s impossible not to picture those romantic scenes you’ve read in books or seen in movies. And with each scene, you sort of walk yourself through how you might react. Will you cry, will you be surprised, will you be embarrassed by the display? And no matter how much we prepare ourselves, we still want to be surprised.
For Emilie and Kyle, their love story began over 2 years ago, when they saw each other from across the room at a friend’s murder mystery party. And in today’s day and age, it doesn’t take more than the click of a button to make a connection. Which was the first thing Kyle did after they spent an entire evening laughing and getting to know one another? With a quick search on Facebook and a Friend Request, their relationship began.
Have you ever done one of those murder mystery parties? I must admit they’re one of my favorites. Perhaps it’s my background in acting or my love for solving a cold case as I watch police dramas. But regardless of whether you are a fan or not, they’re GREAT ice breakers and get people to interact.
Fast forward to over two years later, where Emilie and Kyle are enjoying a casual conversation on a porch swing. It was during that conversation that out of nowhere Kyle knelt down and asked Emilie to be his wife. I could just picture it when Emilie told me their story. And my first thought was, is this a scene from a Nicholas Sparks movie? (I’m admittedly a fan and have read/watched them all). But just the idea of a sweet little swing on a porch has me all kinds of nostalgic. Anyone else love a good romantic throw-back? I think with the farmhouse craze, we all dream a little bit of the good ol’ days.
But what good is a love story without a bit of comedy? Sometimes I wonder if that’s where Jeremy and I come in? In fact, it was at our first meeting at a coffee shop, that I sat a table nearby, wondering if this was, in fact, the couple I was there to meet. And after overhearing a bit of “wedding talk,” I finally introduced myself. Honestly, sometimes I wonder if I should just tell couples I’ll be the one carrying a red rose. Haha!
For their engagement session, we found ourselves at Sandstone Ranch in Longmont, Colorado. Just moments before their session, we experienced some true Colorado weather. Going from crazy hot to stormy to warm within 30 minutes. So it was anyone’s guess how today was going to turn out. But I’ve become accustomed to sharing with my couples, that if you are ready to be all in, no matter the weather, your session will be exactly the way it was meant to be. Real. Authentic and Fun. Now mind you, if it’s a crazy storm, we’re gonna reschedule. But if you make the best of whatever life hands you, you’ll find joy in almost any circumstance.
And of course, we ended up with totally perfect weather. Overcast covered the mountain views, but we did experience some gorgeous sunsets.
From our first meeting with this fun-loving couple to our engagement session at Sandstone, it’s been a total joy. And watching their young love just brings back memories of mine and Jeremy’s dating days. We actually just celebrated 13 years of marriage this week, and it always makes for a good excuse to dig out the “baby-dating” photos and reminisce. This really is one of the most memorable times of your lives. And it’s so important to have moments like this to slow down and just be together.
Can’t wait for your wedding day, Emilie and Kyle. It’s going to be a beautiful wedding and an even better marriage!
Check out what we’re all about on our Engagements Page and let’s go make some memories!
