This winter wedding for Aiden and Megan was full of so much laughter; an emotional and heartfelt ceremony, and a First Look at Spring Canyon Park that was just the sweetest.

I’ve known Aiden since he was about 13 years old performing in our summer theater program as the Beast in Beauty and the Beast. He’s always been that “leading man” type, even at a young age. So when he met the love of his life Megan, it was like seeing the guy you always root for in a movie, getting the girl in the end. To be fair, it’s also crazy seeing someone you’ve known since they were little, be mature enough (within reason) to be getting married. But these two compliment each other so perfectly, that after years of dating, Megan and Aiden were more than ready to make it official.

We first met Megan at another BG Bride’s wedding and just adored the joy she brought to Aiden’s life. You could see even then he was completely smitten with her as he twirled her around the dance floor.

Jumping ahead to their wedding day, we worked closely with Aiden and Megan to create an ideal timeline. One reality we had to face was that during the winter months, the sun goes down WAY early. Like 4:45 pm. So there’s honestly little to no light to take photos after the ceremony. Which meant getting a lot of the portraits done beforehand. Also going somewhere nearby with beautiful scenery. Fortunately, you don’t have to look very far to find gorgeous views and nature walks in Fort Collins. So we decided to do the couples First Look at nearby Spring Canyon Park.

We lucked out big time, with one of the warmest days we’ve had in Colorado in a while. So with snow on the ground and sun in the sky, we prepared for a heartfelt first look. Both Megan and Aiden were giddy with anticipation. And as tears filled Aiden’s eyes, he took in the beauty of his love standing before him.

Wrapping their arms around each other, Aiden and Megan spent time admiring each other’s attire and talking about how their day had been so far. The stuff normal couples do when they see each other after being apart. Having a first look created this beautiful moment for them to just relax and be present with each other. They hugged and kissed and giggled constantly. It was absolutely what these two needed to put aside all the planning and place the focus back on what the day was really about.

After that, Megan and Aiden spent the next hour together just wandering around the park, taking portraits and enjoying each other’s company.

Following this moment, Megan wanted an opportunity to share in a daddy-daughter first look before walking down the aisle. If I’m honest, these are the moments that melt my heart. Getting to see the relationship and love a parent has for their child is never more evident on the wedding day, than when they see their child for the first time ready to become a Mr. or Mrs. It’s these tiny moments that we seek to the capture. The moment within the moment that tells even more of the story. So when Megan’s dad turned to see her standing before him, his emotions overcame him and tears filled his eyes. His little girl was getting married today.

After spending an afternoon goofing around with the bridal party at the park, we all made our way back to the church to prepare for their ceremony. It was emotional on so many levels, as Megan and Aiden shared extremely meaningful vows in front of their friends and family; who were equally overcome with emotion. They shared in communion and took time to pray for one another while Aiden’s brother sang on guitar.

With a bridal party filled with amazing friends, it can be hard to limit toasts to just the Best Man and Maid of Honor. So the reception was filled with numerous salutes to the couple and some of the funniest toasts we’ve ever heard. Bridal party members reminiscing about two people who have come so far really set the stage for a beautiful reception. It was Megan’s sister who had everyone in tears, as she ended her toast singing “You Are My Sunshine,” to her very best friend.

The whole night was perfection beginning to end. And as the couple prepared to leave on one of the windiest nights ever, the wedding guests pulled together and managed to keep those sparklers lit for one last hurrah.
