This rustic mountain wedding was full of BIG surprises for not only the bride and groom but also the wedding guests. From the romantic morning ceremony to the sprinkles of rain that gave everyone a bit of a scare. Amber and Zack got everything they ever wanted, surrounded by their friends and family on their wedding day.

It’s not the most common thing, to attend a wedding in the morning. Most couples dream about the sunset or a grand night of dinner and dancing. But one of the most under-utilized times for weddings… Brunch. Sorry, I mean mornings. But let’s be honest, who doesn’t LOVE brunch? And getting married before noon really opens up the rest of the day to whatever you can dream up. And brunch happens to be a highlight of this couple’s special day. Catered by Yolkn Around, guests loved toasting with mimosa’s and chowing down on bacon among other great dishes. Now I realize I’m getting ahead of myself, I’ve obviously got food on the brain.

But as my hubby Jeremy and I arrived at this intimate “Backyard” affair, we quickly realized, this was no ordinary backyard. This was one of the most gorgeous Rocky Mountain escapes, with a stunning pergola at the front of a ceremony site, nestled into the woods of Colorado. It was such a perfect location for Amber and Zack’s wedding. Amber grew up surrounded by trees and could imagine no better location than this Colorado Mountain Retreat.

As I went with the Bride and Jeremy went off to be with the groom, we enjoyed a quick tour around the property by the owner, Kurt. He showed us the custom wood swing he built, the stunning flagstone and pergola he created for events like this, and so many other little touches, like the one of a kind, wood-framed mirror for their “bridal suite.” It was a dream for a bride wanting a romantic rustic mountain wedding.

As Amber’s sister helped her into her dress, it was her grandmother who was asked to tie the bow. As a former seamstress, this was such a lovely moment for her to add her own special touch to Amber’s dress. Her mom lent a hand clipping her necklace, and her bridesmaids kept the laughter going as they surrounded her with love. Jessica Kelley did a phenomenal job on Amber’s hair and makeup, effortlessly incorporating the floral crown made by the bride.

Amber’s dress was an absolute stunner by Sophia Tolli from Abeille Bridal. And the look was completed by a few traditional items, such as her grandmother’s pearl necklace, her oldest sister’s blue baby bracelet pinned delicately to her dress and a small framed photo of her sister tied to her bouquet. It was these symbols that shed light on a noticeable absence on this special day. But, while her sister watched down from heaven, her presence was felt often, with tears filling her family’s eyes throughout the day.

As the ceremony was about to begin, it was just the sweetest thing watching the groomsmen huddle up for prayer, with hands all piled in the middle. And as Zack made his way to the front, he took a brief moment to take it all in before turning his back to the aisle. At first, I wasn’t sure what was happening, but then I looked back at the incredibly long journey the bride needed to make to her groom and realized, he was waiting till she was in clear view. Pastor Bill gently gave him a nod and as Zack turned around to see his gorgeous bride walking toward him he beamed from ear to ear. Arm in arm with her mother and grandmother Amber made her way down the aisle toward’s her future husband. It was a beautiful sight, as everyone in the crowd wiped tears from their eyes and took in the beauty of these three generations of women.

A little back story on the importance of Amber’s Grandmother. When I sat down with Amber and Zack to discuss their wedding, the one thing that was most important to Amber was having her wedding on the same day as her Granny’s 90th Birthday. The hardest part was not knowing if she would be able to make the trip. But low and behold, there she was holding her sweet granddaughter’s hand, ready to give her away to her husband-to-be. And the best part… as the ceremony began, Pastor Bill asked Amber’s Grandmother to stand, so that everyone could sing Happy Birthday to her. Her Grandmother beamed and smiled, as she modestly assumed she was here just for Amber.

But this was only the beginning of the surprises for Amber’s Grandmother and the rest of the wedding guests. During the reception, the couple had a very special birthday present they wanted her to open. So with all eyes on her, she pulled back the tissue to reveal a picture frame and in the frame was a photo from their ultrasound with a message that read “Baby Romer Coming November 2019.” As her jaw dropped and the message was read allowed for everyone to hear, everyone went crazy with excitement. Amber and Zack, finally breathed a sigh of relief, knowing their Big secret was finally out. It was the cherry to top to a beautiful wedding.

Amber and Zack, we are beyond excited for you. What an honor it was to not only capture your wedding but also be a part of this new chapter of your lives. We can’t wait to meet Baby Romer and look forward to seeing your love grow so deep for each other and for this new addition to your family. You with both make AMAZING parents. CONGRATULATIONS!
