When Ben and Kendra pulled Jeremy and me aside one Sunday after church, I could tell they had something big to discuss. It honestly could have been anything, but Kendra couldn’t stop giggling and her smile was ear to ear. I remember asking her what it was about and she said, “oh, I think Ben just wanted to ask you guys something.” But as I took it all in (being the detective that I am), I noticed Kendra holding her left hand behind her back. It was actually kind of funny, cause I would walk to one side and she would counter me ensuring she never revealed her little secret. So when we walked backstage and out of view, the two of them blurted it out… “We’re Engaged.” It was the best news EVER.
We’ve actually known Ben and Kendra for a few years now and had the opportunity to work with them on the worship team at church. And then weekly the four of us and a group of friends get together for a community group. Ben lovingly calls us his “Jesus friends,” which we find hilarious, but also a pretty huge honor.
Our friendship with them has been filled with adventures and amazing raw moments of growth. We are challenged together and we definitely laugh A LOT. Jeremy and I love to try new things, be it new restaurants, crazy food or random adventures. And these two are always game for whatever we have up our sleeves. I mean, they eat fried grasshoppers, so I can’t say that they have the highest standards. Ha ha (a story for another time.) And next year after these two crazy kids get married, we’ll be traveling to Isreal together for another unforgettable adventure.
But I’m getting a tad ahead of myself. Let’s back up and learn more about Ben and Kendra… In the beginning. (See what I did there)
These two lovebirds met like most people… doing a job they disliked, but found the one good thing about it… each other. They started dating and over the course of their relationship have seen some pretty incredible parts of the world. Ben happens to be a pretty awesome videographer with his epic drone shots. And Kendra also has a love for photography. Together they’ve been able to join tour groups and gather footage for companies looking to document their own adventures.
Eventually the two started attending our home church together and got involved with the worship and production team, then found themselves serving in the youth program. After traveling to Mexico City for an unforgettable missions trip with our youth, the two decided one last adventure was necessary. So they wandered to Telluride and hiked up Black Bear Pass, where they came across a stunning waterfall. They nearly got struck by lightning in the process as a huge thunderstorm rolled in threatening their fun. But they managed to find safety and it was there that Ben asked Kendra to be his wife.
When the four of us made our way out for their engagement session, Jeremy and I could tell they were a ball of nerves. Neither one of them particularly enjoys getting photos taken. And more than anything they didn’t want to “look dumb.” I’m sure no one can relate to that. ? But, it wasn’t long before the nerves subsided and we had the best time wandering around the Poudre Canyon at Picnic Rock. Then later found ourselves standing on the cliffs of Horsetooth Reservoir. It was a true Colorado engagement session, ending of course with a toast at a local bistro.
We’re obviously looking forward to these two getting married and celebrating that day with them. But more than that, we’re excited for the incredible future they have ahead as husband and wife. Kendra and Ben… thank you for letting Jeremy and I be a part of this season of your lives. We count it an absolute honor to capture this incredibly significant moment and thrilled that you will have these photos to pass down to future generations.
Love you guys and here’s to making more memories together!
