Katie and Zach shared one of the most beautiful summer weddings’s in the rustic fields of Colorado with every little detail you would expect at a farmhouse inspired celebration.
We’ve known and loved the Cheuvront family for years so getting to witness one of the most memorable days of their lives was such an honor.
From top to bottom, the day was like a dream. From the gorgeous spring florals by Maurin McCambridge and A Florae, to the rustic charm of the new event venue The Covey in Fort Collins, CO, you could feel the couple in every little details. There were sweet place cards held on to burlap napkins with close-pins, and mason jars filled with soft baby’s breath and greenery lining the aisle. Everywhere you looked you would see so much love put into the details.
Katie and Zach met sophomore year of high school, and after years of dating, got engaged in a romantic proposal by the river. Like most couples, the two decided to wait till after their college graduations to tie the knot. So when the opportunity presented itself, the two picked a weekend filled with celebrations.
So over memorial day weekend, Zach graduated from the Air Force Academy, Katie graduated earlier in the year from Colorado State University, her sister had her last day of teaching before summer break, Katie’s brother graduated high school, her parents celebrated their anniversary AND Katie celebrated her Birthday. I mean…, if everyone is already getting together, you might as well make it a weekend to remember.
And boy did this family party. Arriving at The Covey in style, the bride and her best friends drove up in a stretch limo, popping champagne and toasting to this beautiful day. The owners of The Covey were a total joy to work with, going above and beyond to make sure Katie and Zach had the best day ever.
The amazing Samantha Mathews of Mathews Weddings and Events took lead of our amazing vendor team and produced a truly amazing day that allowed the bride and groom to be completely present in every moment.
I can’t say enough about the difference a wedding planner or even day of coordinator makes on a wedding day. From ensuring everyone stays on an ideal timeline, to coming to the rescue saving the bride’s dress from small stains, Samantha was fully prepared to ensure every small details was taken care of. What a relief it was for the bride and her family to let go and trust that they’ve got an amazing team.
Katie was absolutely stunning in her Martina Linana dress from The Bridal Collection. As soon as she put the dress on, everyone could suddenly feel the realness of the day. And I knew when she took a moment to see herself for the first time in the mirror, the butterflies started doing their dance and the tears between her and her family began to fall.
The most common thing we hear from bride’s after their wedding day was how quickly things moved. And if you aren’t considerate of this ahead of time the day can so easily start to slip away. This is a huge reason why we as a photo and video team work hard to find time for our couples to slow down and feel all the things.
For Katie it was in all the small moments like adding enough time to put on her dress. It may not seem like it, but not having enough time to slow down at the beginning of the day, can actually be a huge factor in the rest of the day moving too fast. It’s about a mindset. This part of the day sets you up to make the most of every other moment, like looking in the mirror and soaking up all the emotions you’ve been waiting to feel. Being able to hug your mom and maybe even take a moment to pray over the day.
Another moment Katie experienced was a bridesmaid first look that made her best friends in the world scream for and cry with joy at the beauty that stood before them. Later it was a daddy-daughter first look that allowed her and her dad to cry all the tears and melt into that moment without worrying that they would need to rush down the aisle.
There are so many things we’ve experienced on a wedding day, but the number one thing we fight for is time for the bride and groom to be together. After Zach was completely taken back by this gorgeous woman walking down the aisle towards him, we couldn’t wait for the two of them to just wrap their arms around each other to soak in the realness of this day.
Needless to say, their portrait time with us was so cherished and when we pulled the couple out again at sunset to wander around the property, they were able to cut loose and fully celebrate.
After some romantic portraits we rejoined the party inside where DJ Drake was doing an incredible job getting everyone out on the dance floor. And in one of my favorite moments of the day, the bride’s father Bill found himself on the dance floor with his sweet mom in his arms. As he held her up, swaying side to side, tears streamed down his face. He wasn’t alone as everyone took in the beauty of this cherished time that we know they will never forget.
I am convinced we have one of the most important jobs in the world. In a split second the whole world can change and all we’d be left with is our memories. The fact that people trust us so fully to capture these moments and create a time capsule for generations to share, is something I feel the weight of every wedding day. My crazy nostalgic heart just wants so deeply for our couples to walk away from their wedding day with hearts overflowing and memories they can hold in their hands.
Every time I turned around at Katie and Zach’s wedding I witnessed another glimmer in time that was filled with the kind of emotions you want to relive over and over again. We are so blessed to do what we do and provide our couples with this gift.
Thank you Katie and Zach for trusting us with your memories. We are so grateful for the Cheuvront and Kennison families and we wish you all the very best! Congratulations!
And don’t miss this couple’s romantic engagement portraits and film.
