Oh, let me tell you about Emilee and Nathan’s wedding day at The Tapestry House in Fort Collins—it was one of those days that remind you just how unpredictable Colorado can be! We were all geared up for a scorching 100-degree day, but instead, we got a dramatic downpour. Typical Colorado, right? But honestly, the rain brought this magical vibe to the day that none of us could have anticipated.
So, picture this: Emilee and Nathan, both a bundle of nerves and excitement, starting their day with the most heartfelt letters to each other. There they were, on the wraparound porch, with the rain gently falling all around them. It was like something out of a romance novel. Reading those letters, you could feel the love and anticipation in the air—it really set the tone for the whole day.
Emilee was an absolute vision in her dress from Dora Grace, and she totally rocked those turquoise ankle cowboy boots. We planned to have a sweet father-daughter moment under the trees, but just as we were about to step out, the drizzle turned into a deluge. Jeremy got stuck outside with Emilee’s dad, trying to keep dry under the trees. Meanwhile, I whisked Nathan and his mom onto the porch so she could pin his boutonniere. Let me tell you, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. The thunder rolling in the background only added to the atmosphere.
We had to pivot pretty quickly with our plans, so we moved Emilee’s first look with her dad indoors. When he slid open that Victorian door and saw his daughter in her dress, the look on his face was priceless. Emilee had kept her look a surprise, and it paid off big time—his reaction was pure gold.
Speaking of special touches, Emilee’s bouquet was wrapped in pieces of her mother’s wedding dress. How sweet is that? And with the rain showing no signs of letting up, we brought Nathan to the porch for his first look at Emilee. He stood there, holding a beautiful bouquet for her, and when he turned around and saw her, they both just melted. It was like watching two best friends reunited after years apart. Their tears said it all—this was the start of something truly beautiful.
Just as they had their moment, the skies miraculously cleared up. We had a tiny window before the ceremony, so we sprinted outside to capture as many portraits as we could. We found the best spots under the trees, using towels to keep Emilee’s dress from getting soaked. It was a mad dash, but so worth it.
As the ceremony approached, the couple and their wedding party gathered inside for a moment of prayer. The rain had stopped, but the glistening wet pavement and the canopy of trees gave everything a whimsical, fairy-tale feel. The ring bearers had everyone laughing with their sign that read, “We can’t be trusted with the rings,” and the flower girls did their best to make it down the aisle, adding to the charm of the day.
After the beautiful ceremony, guests were treated to drinks from Sparrow Hill’s beverage burros before heading into the tented reception. With the rain gone, we still had a few more portraits to take, so Emilee and Nathan joined us during the “blue hour” for a quick stroll around the property. The soft light and the damp, glowing landscape made for some stunning shots.
The reception was an absolute blast—tearful toasts, a packed dance floor, and s’mores around the firepit. It was one of those nights that felt perfect in every way.
As Emilee and Nathan head off to their honeymoon in Charleston, South Carolina, we’re sending them all our love and best wishes. Being their Fort Collins Wedding Photographer and Videographer was such an honor. Their day was filled with unexpected moments and beautiful memories that we’ll cherish forever.
