What happens when two dancer’s fall in love? The connection is unmistakable. With just a glance you can easily see how deeply they trust one another in each effortless embrace.
Getting to spend a chilly November evening at Horsetooth Reservoir with Katie and Christian to celebrate their engagement, was like watching two kids fall in love in a movie. I say kids because I’ve known Katie since she was a young performer in my theatrical productions. But stepping back now and seeing such a beautiful, confident young woman took my breath away. Well that, and the frigid chill in the air.
We found ourselves taking jackets on and off between shots to keep from freezing. But like the song says “I’ve got my love to keep in warm.” And these two were quick to snatch up any chance to snuggle.
One of my favorite things about these two is the chemistry they have on the dance floor. Back during Katie’s senior year in high school I had the opportunity to take some fun prom photos for her and Christian. And even then, they couldn’t wait to show-off their dance moves. Like Fred Estair and Ginger Rogers, these two make dancing look like a walk in the park. I’ve also had the chance to see some pretty amazing video’s of these two cutting loose. I mean, they are crazy good. So of course during their engagement session, we couldn’t miss this chance to let them show off a bit… on the edge of a mountain… in the freezing cold. Who’s up for a challenge?
But aside from their dance skills, these two are absolutely smitten with each other. They have a beautiful relationship, built on a firm foundation of faith. When I asked both Katie and Christian what things love the most about each other, here’s what they had to share with me:
“I love her joyful mannerisms; sometimes she will skip to give me a hug or just fall over on me and expect me to catch her. I love her big vibrant smile and her big blue eyes. I love her beautiful faith in God and her gentle and caring heart towards everyone. She is a ray of sunshine in this dark and broken world and my favorite thing is to hold her close.” – Christian
“love his goofiness and ability to always make me giggle. His eyes are soft and loving, and his smile makes me giddy. He is kind and sensitive yet so strong and makes me feel so safe. He never remains stagnant but rather always pushes harder to learn more and be a better version of himself. Above all, I am in love with his relationship with God. He is so steadfast in his faith and makes God a priority in our relationship. He has been so encouraging and taught me so much about God. I am confident that he will always be an amazing leader in our relationship.” – Katie
It’s never too early to start thinking about those wonderful things you cherish in one another. Too often we get caught up in the wedding planning and lose sight of what’s most important.
So when Jeremy and I get the chance to spend time with our couples before their wedding day, we like to take time to put things in perspective. This is the beginning of your forever together. Count your blessings. Show gratitude. And never stop dancing. (Jeremy and I actually promised to always dance together in our wedding vows. I wonder if Katie and Christian will add that to their’s?)
Congrats Katie and Christian. We are so looking forward to your wedding this summer!
Here’s a little Engagement Film from our evening together. We’ll call it an appetizer before the main course! ENJOY!
