Oh, where do I even begin with Katie and John’s magical June wedding at The Boulders in Estes Park? As an Estes Park Wedding Photographer, I have the honor of capturing some of the most breathtaking moments, and this day was nothing short of spectacular. Even with the forecast predicting on-and-off showers, we turned potential hiccups into a celebration full of love, laughter, and a few delightful surprises.
Katie and John, bless their hearts, were the epitome of grace under pressure. The rain may have moved a lot of our portrait sessions indoors, but hey, that’s just another opportunity to get creative, right? And boy, did we! The Boulders provided the perfect backdrop for some truly stunning indoor shots.
Now, let me tell you about the wedding party. This group was an absolute blast to work with. Their love for Katie and John was so genuine that you could feel it in every hug, every laugh, and every tear. And tears? Oh, there were plenty. Friends and family were overcome with emotion at every turn, and honestly, I might have teared up a bit myself.
Katie shared her first look with her bridesmaids, and let me tell you, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Her dad’s reaction? Priceless. He was completely blown away by his daughter, and it was one of those moments that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Before the guests arrived, Katie and John exchanged private vows on the deck. The rain fell softly outside, creating a sweet and intimate atmosphere. It was like a scene from a romance novel, and I felt so privileged to capture that special moment.
As the guests started to arrive, they were greeted by a bagpiper, setting a festive tone for the day. The skies, in their infinite wisdom, cleared just in time for the indoor ceremony. With the glass doors open wide, guests were treated to stunning mountain views. Katie’s aunt officiated the ceremony, adding a personal touch that made the event even more special.
Guests couldn’t get enough of the Colorado Rockies. The lower deck was buzzing with activity during cocktail hour and well into the reception. Even after the sun went down, the fire pits kept everyone cozy and content.
Now, here’s where it gets truly international. Half the guests had traveled from countries like Scotland, England, Australia, and Canada. It was a global celebration, and the mother of the bride’s welcome speech had everyone’s jaws on the floor. I mean, who knew you could have so many accents in one room?
And boy, did this crowd know how to party! But before the dancing started, everyone took a moment to soak in the incredible Rocky Mountain views from The Boulders’ skydeck. The gluten-free cake from Posh Cakes was a hit, too—delicious and considerate of dietary needs.
Katie and John incorporated many Scottish traditions into their day, including the Gay Gordon dance, kilts, and of course, the bagpiper. It was a beautiful blend of cultures and traditions, and we loved every moment of it.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was when the DJ played songs familiar to the international guests. There’s something incredibly joyful about people swinging arm in arm, belting out lyrics at the top of their lungs. The joy was absolutely infectious.
Katie and John are the kindest, most genuine people, and it was an absolute joy to be by their side throughout the day. We navigated the unpredictable weather, the ups and downs of planning, and the incredible celebration with smiles on our faces and joy in our hearts.
Being an Estes Park Wedding Photographer means being a part of moments like these—where love, laughter, and a bit of adventure come together to create a day no one will ever forget. Katie and John, thank you for letting us be a part of your beautiful journey. Cheers to many more magical moments!
