Kyra and Ben’s golden hour engagement on the cliffs of Horsetooth was every bit as dreamy as you’d imagine! We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening. The lighting was perfect, the setting was magical, and the company was delightful! 

Interestingly, this wasn’t our first encounter with Kyra! We had the honor of photographing her sister Annika’s wedding a few years ago, so we were thrilled to get to spend some time celebrating this newly engaged couple! 

Kyra and Ben’s engagement story is so very sweet. In the days leading up to the big moment, they had made plans to have brunch with their friends Ryan and Bria at a new restaurant Kyra was eager to try. 

After brunch, they all tossed around the idea of going on a hike since the weather was so beautiful. They made a stop at the house to change clothes and round up the dogs. Then Kyra and Ben headed to meet their friends at a new hiking location just about an hour away. 

As they drove, Kyra began getting seriously suspicious. Too many coincidences were unfolding all at once! After all, their friends just “happened” to be up for a spontaneous hike?! And they conveniently had a change of clothes in their car? Interesting…

They arrived at the trailhead and began to prepare for the hike. Kyra gathered the backpack holding their water. Then she noticed their friend Ryan brought out his own backpack…and tripod.

Kyra knew instantly that something significant was happening! She tried to contain her excitement as they headed out on the trail. After hiking about a mile, Kyra and Bria stopped to rest. Meanwhile, the guys went to scout out a good spot for some pictures. When they returned, the dogs suddenly had bandanas around their necks that were definitely not there at the beginning of the hike. 

Kyra pretended not to notice the words “Will You Marry Our Dad?” printed on the bandanas, and she played along as they took a few pictures. It didn’t take long for Ben to turn to her and start speaking. Before he could even get down on one knee, Kyra was already exclaiming, “YES!!”

As they made their way back to the cars, they quickly realized that their spontaneous hike turned into a 3-mile journey back down the trail. Ben really made Kyra work for that ring! 

These two are just filled with so much love and laughter. It’s obvious they mean so much to one another. We asked them to share a little about what they love about each other.

Ben said, “There are several things that come to mind, so it is difficult to just pick one. I love that I can be myself around her…When there was a possibility of my career taking me to North Carolina, she was there to support me in any way I needed…It is the support she shows me on a daily basis. The fact that she gives me a hard time (out of love) and makes me laugh, either with her humor or her reactions to something stupid I said. It is hard to only pick one thing out of the many.”

Kyra had quite a bit to say as well. “I love that he feels like home. When I’m around him I feel safe and loved like never before. He’s always supporting me in so many ways, even when I lost my job during COVID… he was always there to listen and help where he could. (Ben) is such a goofy person and he makes me smile and laugh all the time….He always laughs at my jokes, even when they are horrible! He’s such a selfless person and is always thinking of others in any situation…He’s just the person that I don’t ever want to have to do life without. He makes life fun and easier!”

You can’t help but adore these two and their sweet love story. We can’t wait to celebrate with them at their upcoming fall wedding at Bonnie Blues!
